New Hampshire in the fall

Last fall I visited New Hampshire for the first time. Or should I say, visited the Northeast for the first time. The weather in October, as you might imagine, was just perfect - warm days, cool, almost chilly evenings. While our base was in Concord for the week, we took off on some side trips to Boston and Gloucester, Mass. However, our reason for going was to photograph the fall foliage in NH's beautiful White Mountains. Not only had the leaves began turning some spectacular colors, but we were also rewarded with some great pictures of waterfalls.

The White Mountains are a mountain range that covers about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine in the US. Part of the Appalachian Mountains, they are considered the most rugged mountains in New England. The range is heavily visited due to its proximity to Boston and New York City.

Many of our photos were taken at stops along the Kancamagus Highway (now a National Scenic Byway) - NH Route 112 between Lincoln and Conway. One of the most interesting things about our trip were all the election signs posted in the yards of homes we drove by. Since NH holds the first primary of the presidential campaigns, they take their candidates very seriously there! We also went through the towns of Laconia and North Conway in addition to many others. The towns were very picturesque and the people were very friendly wherever we went.

Fall is coming - you should go!
